northumbria 2010; part four - boys, boys, boys

A bit of a departure for this blog now....menswear!

Amy Churchill

That last tshirt is padded; it's pretty cool, if a bit odd.
The, err, perk(?) of menswear is that we (we being 'my' band of raggedy alcoholics who end up at theCut every week) have a friend (and by friend I mean person we kinda know from out and about) modelling this year. Which is a source of amusement, of course. Kurt would be the one in aforementioned padded tee.

Caroline Rowland
Love the pops of yellow.

Fiona Macaulay

Natassja Kirk

Two words: pimp. stick.
Loved this one - but then, I'm a sucker for a dandy.

Stacey Beggs

Some nice cuts here.

Sian Catherine Griffiths

I only got a couple of shots of this one, but I loved the little details. The pleated(Y) gunflaps on the trench, for example.
I think this bag is also from her collection...either way it's awesome.

Louise Dickinson

The traveller/map/ethnic theme was so strong and clear here (we had a chat with some 4th years, so I've seen some of their sketchbooks and stuff...). Loved the oversized shirt&jacket shapes, and, of course, the map print.
Louise was Bryony's 4th year; and Bryony made the bag all by her onesies...

if only straight jackets were ACTUALLY this awesome.

I'd be signing up for a stint in the asylum; posthaste!

Korean-based menswear craic, yesyes? Vidi wooyoungmi!

And of course, the pictures are pretty small and stuff...but you should FOR REAL check out the website linked above, vaiiirr high res images from this (A/W09/10, natch) and previous collections (just, annoyingly, in flash and too big to grab, oh macbook how i adore your features etc).

Erm, hello...awesome!? I mean, as a menswear collection it's pretty cool anyways, but the knits/jackets/shoulder accoutrements are SO FAR BEYOND AWESOME it's actually ridic.
A little military (epaulettes! medals!), totally unisex, ideal for layering, rendered in so many of my fave fabrics (leather! suede! wool!), and a good heap of asymmetry (♥) thrown right on in there for good measure...

oh my.

I love the colours, the little details, even the complete straight-jacket-esque-ness of it all. I think any of the first 3...or possibly the last one...are my faves. Oh, GOD, I can't even choose.

-----------

There's a bunch of stockists on the website, including Selfridges and Vertice in London, Behaviour and King of Greene Street in New York, and Le Bon Marche in Paris, as well as a bunch of places around the Far East, Europe and Canada, but I'm failing to see any online type deals, unless any of these stores stock 'em...course if I find an online stockist I'll link it!!

-----------

So yeah, I orig discovered these over at Tom&Lorenzo (which if you are a fan of Project Runway/Mad Men/bitchy gays, you should already be viewing on a regular basis).

candy shop

Candy is the new magazine from Luis Venegas, creator of Fanzine 137 and Electric Youth! (neither of which I've heard of before, but I'm gonna go have a little dig around in a minute cos I'm somewhat interested now). There's a feature and interview at Dazed Digital...

It's the world's first transversal style magazine!
I'm pretty sure my workmate off of placement (Eudald @ weneedanewman) went along to the launch party in Hoxton last week.
Luke Worral makes an excellent woman.

Vidi the launch video:

CANDY 1 from Luis Venegas on Vimeo.

So yeah, it's full of editorials featuring male models in drag; Lacroix couture and Rodarte's web-like knits; and "some of the most iconic figures in trans-history", as well as contributions from the likes of photographer Bruce Weber. Exciting!

Some examples?

J'adore le sparkly corset!
Reminds me of this slice of heaven (sometimes it would be nice to have smaller boobs. I'm most certainly not fitting into a 32B.)

It can be found here at ebay... I think I might be DIY-ing, it's just too fabulous.

Candy, as Fanzine 137 and Electric Youth!, is printed in a limited run of 1000 copies, and A/W 09/10 is on sale now!

anotherman

You can read the new AnOtherMan magazine online here, which is nice.
Good for things to be free.
You may wonder why I'd post about a men's fashion magazine (hey, just cos I'm not wearing the clothes doesn't mean I can't look at and be inspired by 'em, yeah?) but OTHER THAN THAT there's also an interview (and some brooding pictures) with one rpatzzzz. Mmm.

And he doesn't look too tired.
I mean, he always looks tired, right?

There's some other good stuff to be read in here; plus yknow, it's all free and online and shit.

oh gosh

maybe I should do a post?
sorry, been busy doing nothing in Dundee for the last few days. This threatens to continue until wednesday.*

But what to post about? Well, some random things that have caught my attention lately, that's what.

sometimes a fashion blog is not the most inspirational of blogs
I'm finding Facehunter's second and more personal blog more inspiring, of late. Yvan Rodic (that would be his real name) has incredible photos from his travels around the globe. Example? This shot from his latest post, from Jakarta. It could be something from an editorial, almost?

sometimes blogs you'd kinda written off post worthwhile quotes
I'm not the biggest Tavi fan. OK? Yeah, I said it! If you haven't come across Tavi yet...never mind. OK, it's not that I'm not a fan, it's just I don't think the hype is justified, particularly.
She's the Arctic Monkeys of bloggers.
Don't believe the hype.
I'd like to thank Patricija off of Fashion Mongers for sharing my view. On a post about a month ago? Yeahhhh.

So anyways, yeah, this post, fairly self explanatory? Often the view of non-fashion people; often a defence I have to roll out. It's not too rare an occasion that I have to defend my career choice and/or interests to some random fash-basher. Eurgh.

sometimes, tv talent competitions become a parody of themselves
ok, so I'm not now, nor have I ever been, the biggest x factor fan. I mean, I'm never a fan of the music the alumni release**, I don't usually watch the auditions (I don't wish to watch people who can't sing make fools of themselves and the country laugh at them, kthnx), and I'm not too bothered if I miss an episode. If I'm in, I'll watch it. If there's nothing on tv on a sunday, I'll itvplayer it. There's no one I''m particularly a fan of this year; there's no one I want to win (Olly, at a push, though.)
That said, the Jedward craic is amazing.
What I'm amused by now, is that they don't know how they've got this far***, and I think they've a little bit stopped caring and stopped putting effort into their singing (if they ever were) and seeing how far they can go. Given how seriously everyone else involved in the show takes it, knowing that few, if any, of the contestants, will have a career out of it, I think that's worth applauding. Maybe.
Course, if they do win, there'll be no shutting Louis Walsh up, and by god the man is an idiot.

Anyways, Henry Holland is onside.

I want that tee. Even knowing that it won't be relevant in a few weeks.

FYI, I've been writing this for approx 2 hours, because Jon keeps distracting me with his questionable music choices. And kisses. ^_^.

------------------------

*it is continuing until wednesday, this is when my train back home is.
**not counting Will Young. But of course, he is a pop idol alum, not an x factor-ite. Oh, and Beat Again by JLS. Tune.
***it's because Louis is an idiot (for putting them through) and the general public can't be trusted to be sensible when given the power to vote in masses, quite frankly. That's democracy for yer!

These Boots

Are a little bit amazing.

These are in women's sizes, I might add, and if I had £60 I'd be all over them. But if they came in men's sizes, I believe any guy wearing these would automatically have my attention.*
Fit is not the word.

*I say they don't do men's sizes, but they are in sizes 3 - 8, and also come in red....so yeah.
I know size 8 footed men! You should get all over these and make bigger footed men jealous. I reckon.

Menswe@r

Sadly, this is not a post about the britpop band, but is instead a post about how men's clothes are clearly awesome.

I'm still mourning the loss of my camera, and of course this means I can't post pics of the CLEARLY AMAZING men's chinos I bought last week.
In the sale.
At a charity shop.
For a pound.
Ohhh yeah.

They are many kinds of awesome, as evidenced by a positive reaction to them when I wore them out on Friday night (despite the fact I literally threw them on cos I only decided to go out about half an hour before we left).

So when Kingdom of Style (and IS MENTAL!) wrote about the label God's Prey earlier this week, I was interested to note that it was the menswear I was way more into. Check this jacket!

Ahhhhh SO MUCH LOVE! I hope it's within my budget.....which hopefully it will be, apparantly my London deposit is on it's way back to me! Wooo!
