resort.

Quick resort roundup, non? I paid little to no attention to Resort this year (normally I look through every show every season but, yknow, I was busy), though I've seen a few collections on various blogs. I took some time to look through the labels I like, though, and pick out some looks I'm feeling.

3.1 Phillip Lim; ADAM

Love the shoes at ADAM more than any of the clothes (really hoping the multi buckle/pointy thing filters down to affordable level and the colour and cut of the trousers at Lim.

Band of Outsiders; Chloe

HOUNDSTOOTH JACKET. LEATHER SKIRT. That is all. Again, shoes at Chloe - the clothes were all nice enough but nothing too astounding - and thats two for two on the multi-buckle thing.

Givenchy
Great cut outs/shapes, love the colour palette and the mixed florals.

Alexander McQueen; Mulberry
Love the shapes at McQueen, and the cute pieces like this floral dress at Mulberry. Especially a fan of the leopard print shoes/ankle socks. SHOES AGAIN. QUELLE SURPRISE.

Proenza Schouler
It's really the colour palette at Proenza, which is gorgeous. I liked most of the looks and found it hard to pick one in particular, but this one's really cool.

contrasts.

black and blue, matte and shiny, leather and....leather.

always been an admirer of ADAM (a label that was on my 'shop report' short list...) and a/w11 hasn't let me down - blacks, blues, creams and greys (the bulk of my wardrobe in colour terms, then) plus checks, full and/or midi length skirts and a little sheer, texture and knit thrown in.

meanwhile alexander wang is doing capes and more capes - or "the curvy fashion girls's [sic] favorite" as derek blasberg tweeted during the show. right. sure. yeah. really? - featuring many a matte/shiny panel.
obvs awang is a fan of the 90s - he very much facilitated the grunge comeback, yeah? - but the shiny puffa jacket situation should be left there, imo. i leave the first look with you as the only example i picked out of said puffa situations, but it's really not the worst offender - and i love that the longer length at the back means you can see the padded inside; big fan.
the panelling really works better with the matte/gold sparkly knit pieces, right?
look 2 is really interesting - the knit blending into the silk - but may i enquire as to who isn't wearing shoes in winter? or for that matter, whose wearing knee boots with open toes and a toe post... hmm.

and at mandy coon it's all about the drama.
leather on leather and fur and belts and full length and black. and dip dyed black fringes, which are pretty awesome.
next a/w isn't so much about fall witchy vibes, it's about fall bikerwitch vibes, or something.

ADAM s/s11

bit late to this one, since the ADAM show was a few days ago, but it had been bookmarked since it popped up on style.com...

there was something about this show that made me grin, and i'm gonna go out on a limb and call it a premonition. a style premonition, if you will. in that, somewhere between the topknots, the leather, the cropped jumpers, the collared shirts and the high waisted trousers is the feeling that this will be my wardrobe in a few years.
it's not quite me yet - note the fuller topknots, for starters, but also the slightly more grown up and sophisticated feel (but still young, of course).

see?

i mean, it's a simpler me, but that's what i mean. me in a few years, when my style has (maybe) evolved into some kind of chic affair rather than a slightly 'grunge-y', worn, rough around the edges look.
...which is, i think, the main characteristic of british style. nothing is too polished, right? which i guess is the thing here. this is new york me! this is polished and neat in a way that i could never be right now; it's just not in my nature.

this was rather less of a review and rather more of a "CAN YOU IMAGINE ME IN THESE?! I TOTALLY CAN!!" post, but really, look at 'em! great colour palette, great proportions (i can't resist a cropped jacket), and the epitome of new york style, which i am constantly drawn to yet can never quite simulate in real life.

also, a note to the red leather dress: oh how i regret forgetting when your vintage counterpart's auction ended on ebay, subsequently missing the end and losing out on the perfect cherry red number going for about 12 quid. sigh.
