tribalism

This is a continuation of yesterday's post, because a rather wonderfully styled spread popped up on FGR which perfectly illustrates what I were on about...

Alek Wek (by Andrew Yee for How To Spend It Magazine)

No need for over-elaborate set ups; amazing styling and a fabulous model will sell stuff here that I wouldn't have considered on the runway.
While there's an element of "tribal on an 'ethnic' model", which I'm not sure I'm down with*, certain shots here are GOLD (I'm lookin' at you, pics 4, 5, 6 and 7), and definitely going in my inspiration folder.

*the fashion industry can still be very....not really racist/sexist/etc, but more like...trying to shock, and provoke, with things that aren't shocking or provoking anyone, and also just really obvious, even in 2010, don't you think?
