S/S 10, Part Dieci

Well let's wrap it up then, ey? Waiting for some soup at aforementioned hostel bar; for the equivalent of less than £2. Czech win. Super tired still. Just an FYI, yknow? Urban Hymns is just finishing and I am excited to see what they play next....

Post of the quick review!

John Galliano
Weird pattern clashes! Stunning gowns!

Wunderkind
The only thing that could possibly be labelled as "patchwork" that I enjoy!

Kenzo
The hoodie is awesome! So is that stripy kaftan effort! I can recreate the third one!

Akris
I like these proportions! I am jealous I didn't come up with concept of lace biker jackets first!

Hussein Chalayan
More weirdly split/shaped skirts, woo!

Chanel
Country craziness - not a fan. I am a fan of these looks though!

Dries Van Noten
Some actual prints that I like!!! Hot layering!

Giambattista Valli
This is cute!

Yves Saint Laurent
Interesting cuts!

Valentino
I like this!

Alexander McQueen
NO WORDS NECESSARY! ARGH! LOOK AT THE SHOES THEYARECRAZYBUTTHEGOODKIND!

Oh, yeah, the soup is at least 7 kinds of awesome and came with an entire bread BASKET and they put on some sort of folk-y compilation album. So far we've had some Dylan, some Belle & Sebastian, some Devandra Banhart, some Kimya Dawson and some nice French stuff. These things all go excellently with French Onion soup, even if I have dripped some on my skirt. Le sigh.

Berlin, day 3.

I'll do day 4 tomorrow; gotta catch up maaaan! I did nothing but sit on a train and feel incredibly tired today. Prague hostel is made of win - sitting in a very comfy chair in the bar which is playing The Verve - Urban Hymns and I am trying not to sing Sonnet really loudly right now.

I miss Berlin and the Dundonions* already. And my tiny black jacket**. Sadface.

What did I do on Wednesday anyway? *looks through pics*

OH YEAH, I totally hit up the Pergamon Museum which was all greek statues and Islamic art and I took sickening amounts of photos cos I am well into greek statues and the colours stories in the art and that. Also they had these vases which made me want to sing the songs from Hercules, and you MUST know how hard it it to supress Disney songs...

Also came across some vintage shops - one dedicated to shoes, and I fell in love with a pair which fit LIKE. A. GLOVE. but they were €99 and I figured that was 'spensive. I am literally going to buy a pair of shoes from a charity shop and have a bash at making my own version though; cos they were AMAZING. And went so well with my outfit it was a little ridiculous. Sigh. (cue super-fiddled with photo. The light was ALL OFF in these changing rooms; wtf. This wasn't in the shoe shop, fyi, but another vint shop...)

U-bahn-ed it to Potsdamer Platz (again; gotta love the tall shiny buildings!) and ate Haagen Daas (ILOVEYOUPRALINESANDCREAM) and walked the length of the Tiergarten right up to the Kaiser Willhelm Memorial Church. Feet hurt ridiculous amount. Found charity shop, bought more sheer grey goodness (NO BUT SERIOUSLY! Why am I writing in caps so much?!? Why does everything have to be shouted?!?!?! Eh.) and then got some noodles (which were amazing) and U-bahn-ed it back to the hostel, wherein pool, beer and banter occurred, as it did every night of my 5 amazing nights.

PHOTODROP! including random sketch of the most awesomely dressed child I've ever seen. I wanted her outfit, man***.

So yes, a normal night ensued, cept this night we also went to a club which had a beach out back (even though it absolutely pissed down for a decent portion of the night).
It also had a 5 floor...warehouse...type...thing...attached to it, which had random bars on some of the floors and a craft market on one, and graffiti and random art EVERYWHERE. Then there was some electro-based dancing in a room at the side to remixes of MGMT, Daft Punk and Depeche Mode. I was throwing mad shapes; hoping that they would conjure Mr Gourley to join me. I mean, Harder Better Faster Stronger is OUR SONG out on the floor; yknow?! But yeah; epicly awesome.
Got to bed at half 4. My dorm hated me, I'm pretty sure. I never turned in til at least half one on any given night....
But...brilliant.
BRILLIANT I TELLS THEE.

I am so tired right now; it's a little bit sickening. But I am determined to stay up and get up superearly tomorrow in order to see as much of Prague as is physically possible tomorrow cos I've only planned one full day here (and most of the second day; hello overnight train to Milan with a 3 hour stopover in Venice). Yeah.

There's a guy watching Family Guy on his iPhone at the next table; I think I love him.

-----------------------------

* BEST WORD FOR PEOPLE FROM A PLACE EVER. Better than Geordies. Dundonions. SAY IT. Brilliant.
** Oh yeah, I totally lost it. It was too small for me an ting, but still. It was right next to my bag; I DO NOT UNDERSTAND!
*** FYI, this is one of the best faces/heads I've ever drawn. In that it actually looks like a person. Woo!

Berlin, day 2.

I'm supposed to be leaving tomorrow, but there are more parts of the city I want to explore so I may stay til Friday...ah the wonders of being flexible with your tickets and such!

So here are a bunch of photos from my wanderings - around the Reichstag, up into the glass Dome a-top it, the Holocaust Memorial (which I enjoy a lot as a piece of architecture), Potsdamer Platz - where some kids were setting off bunches of balloons - and the square by the University Library with what is quite possibly the weirdest form of transport I've ever witnessed; the octagon bike.

The first picture is of me in the mirrored centre of afore mentioned Dome on the Reichstag. I enjoy this picture... You can't really see my outfit though. Boo. Grey maxi dress, black oversized blazer with a belt around it. Berlin is bringing out my love for black and grey and layering even more so, it's been pretty much my uniform this week. My feet hurt from too much walking; also. Must stop complaining, stuff to see and do!

Wilkommen in Berlin

So, apparantly I remember more German than I thought I did and I think I have managed to convince the odd coffee shop employee that I in fact speak the language better than I do. And there's a class full of awesome architecture students from Dundee in my hostel, who are doing a project based in Durham of all places, so I've made friends and everything.....I love Berlin A LOT.

I did another one of those walking tours yesterday (they're in a bunch of cities, I'll probs do 'em all), so now I know more about Nazis than necessary. Nazis and German history of the 20th century, actually. Pretty long tour, but well worth it. If you're doing a Europe jaunt, check out the neweurope tours, they are rather excellent.

Here are a bunch of photos! That gate, that wall, etc.
The one at the top was the site of the old royal palace, which is currently being reconstructed (they've only put a bit of scaffolding up so far...I dunno what it's gonna be used as when its done though...)

Just a hotel, you say? No! Where ACTUAL Michael Jackson dangled that ACTUAL child that time. FACT.

I was highly amused by the last one. Why a sign to LA with the km underneath? Why LA?!? How random.

Currently eating a muffin and drinking a coffee in that oh so German establishment, Starbucks...
They have Ray Charles on.
It is nice.
I could live here, quite easily. (might need to learn/revise some more German though.)

S/S 10, Part Nove

Oo, look I'm keeping up with Paris and everything! Mad skillz.

So let's take a break from Europetravelz (FYI I am a bit in love with Berlin; almost - ALMOST - to NYC/London standards. Gotta love those big cities.) So YES.

I'm not at all wowed by t'Paris shows, as it goes, which is probs good since I haven't got time to check them out particularly extensively.
It's all a bit meh. Even - in fact, especially! - Balmain and Balenciaga. WHAT IS UP WITH THAT SHIT?!
We may never know.

So I dunno how much I can be bothered to write.....you can look at the pretty pictures either way, and be amused by my lacklustre comments.

Rue Du Mail
Skirt in first look. Niice.

Gareth Pugh
Didn't love the show; did love these looks. Espec the first two. There's a maxi skirt on ASOS similar to the second look, that I was toying with....if it's still on when I get back and it's still cheap then p'raps it'll be getting purchased.

Limi Feu
Mmm volummmmme. You can tell she's Yohji's daughter, maaan.

A F Vandevorst
The trousers tucked into stockings thing is kinda odd. But good odd. I think. Maybe? I doubt it works for every day but it's certainly interesting in an editorial sense... Nice shades too.

Yohji Yamamoto
Not loving much more than the lightweight full coats. Which are hawt.

Dior
I just like this. Yeah? Yeah.

Ann Demeulemeester
Maxi skirt love.

Haider Ackermann
Just plain ol' skirt love. J'adore the shape.

Jean Paul Gaultier
Probs my fave Paris collection as of now. LOVE the tights. Like the styling. Like the looks. All from the middle and end section though...But yeah. Good work! I have a severe case of the wants for looks 1 and 5.
